Yoga Retreat Morocco: Yoga, Surf & Soulful Living in Tamraght / Morocco

Surfing at Banana Point

Looking for a yoga and surf retreat in Morocco? Discover a week of yoga, surfing, ocean views and mindful living on Morocco’s Atlantic coast with Yoga x Reiki Lab.

There is something about Morocco that makes it easier to slow down. Maybe it is the sound of the Atlantic Ocean, the smell of fresh mint tea, the warmth of the afternoon sun or the simple pleasure of sitting on a terrace with a coffee and absolutely nowhere to be. I’m Conny, a yoga teacher and the founder of Yoga x Reiki Lab. Morocco has become an important part of my life, and I love bringing people together here through yoga, surfing and shared experiences by the ocean.

If you are looking for a yoga retreat in Morocco that combines meaningful yoga practice with time in nature, a little adventure and space to breathe, you might feel right at home here.

I host retreats at Blue Mind Surf & Yoga Tribe in Tamraght, a laid-back coastal village near Taghazout. My retreats bring together Jivamukti Yoga, Vinyasa and restorative practices, surfing, sound meditations and the kind of moments that make a trip memorable long after you return home.

Whether you are an experienced yogi, curious about trying surfing or simply ready for a break from your everyday routine, here is what you should know about choosing a yoga retreat in Morocco.

Why Choose Morocco for a Yoga Retreat?

There are plenty of beautiful destinations for a yoga holiday, but Morocco offers a particular combination of nature, culture, adventure and everyday simplicity. Along the Atlantic coast, you can spend your morning moving on the yoga mat, your afternoon exploring the coastline and your evening watching the sun disappear into the ocean.

And somewhere between all of that, you might realise that you have stopped checking your phone every five minutes. Not a bad result for a holiday.

Yoga by the Atlantic Ocean

The Atlantic coastline provides a wonderful setting for yoga and mindful movement. The ocean is always there, changing with the light, the weather and the tides. Practising yoga with a view of the sea offers a different kind of experience from rushing into a studio before work. There is more space, fewer distractions and a natural invitation to pay attention to your breath.

Of course, a yoga retreat is not about achieving a permanently peaceful state of mind. Sometimes your thoughts will wander, your balance will disappear halfway through a posture and you will wonder what is for breakfast.

That is part of the practice, too.

For me, yoga is less about getting everything right and more about learning to meet yourself where you are, on the mat and beyond it.

A Different Rhythm of Life

Morocco has a way of reminding you that not everything needs to happen immediately.

Life in a coastal village like Tamraght moves to a rhythm shaped by the ocean, the local community and the seasons. You can discover small cafés, browse local shops, enjoy Moroccan food or take a walk without turning the day into a checklist of activities. The cultural experience is part of the journey. From traditional markets to colourful architecture and the flavours of Moroccan cuisine, there is plenty to explore between yoga sessions.

A retreat gives you the opportunity to experience these things while also making time for yourself.

A Break That Combines Rest and Adventure

Some holidays are all about relaxation. Others are packed with activities from morning until night. A yoga and surf retreat offers a lovely middle ground. You can move your body, challenge yourself in the water, explore somewhere new and still leave room for an afternoon doing very little.

You do not have to choose between adventure and rest. You can have both.

Why I Love Tamraght for Yoga and Surf Retreats

Tamraght is a coastal village on Morocco's Atlantic coast, between Agadir and Taghazout. It is known for its surf culture, relaxed atmosphere and easy access to beaches and surf spots. It is also a wonderful place to experience a different side of Morocco.

You will find small cafés, surf shops, local restaurants and plenty of places to sit down and watch everyday life unfold. The surrounding landscape offers opportunities to explore the coastline, visit nearby villages and discover the countryside beyond the beach. For surfers, the region offers a variety of breaks and conditions throughout the year. For yoga lovers, the ocean and the open landscape provide a beautiful backdrop for movement, meditation and relaxation. Our retreats take place at Blue Mind Surf & Yoga Tribe in Tamraght. The retreat house has a panoramic ocean view and a dedicated yoga shala, creating a setting where yoga, community and the coastal environment naturally come together.

What I particularly love about combining yoga and surfing here is that neither activity has to be the whole story. You can enjoy a dynamic practice, spend time in the ocean, discover Moroccan culture and still have space to simply be.

What Makes the experience Different?

Yoga x Reiki Lab brings together yoga, mindful practices and a love of travel. Our retreats are designed to offer more than a packed schedule of classes and activities. We want to create space for movement, curiosity, connection and the freedom to experience Morocco at your own pace.

Jivamukti, Vinyasa and Restorative Yoga

Our retreat programmes combine different yoga styles, including Jivamukti Yoga, Vinyasa and restorative practices.

Jivamukti Yoga brings together physical practice, breath, meditation and a philosophical approach to yoga. Vinyasa offers flowing movement linked to the breath, while restorative practices create space to slow down and release tension.

This combination allows us to explore different aspects of yoga throughout the week, from energising movement to quieter moments of reflection. You do not need to arrive with a perfect headstand or an impressive yoga vocabulary. What matters is finding a practice that supports you and approaching it with curiosity.

The specific classes vary by retreat, so check the programme of your chosen week for details.

Sound, Meditation and Reiki

Depending on the retreat, sound meditations and other mindful practices are part of the experience. I also offer Reiki sessions, which can be arranged separately where available. These practices offer different ways to explore relaxation and awareness alongside the physical side of yoga and surfing. They are not about fixing yourself or becoming a different person in seven days. Sometimes, making space to pause and notice how you feel is already enough.

A Personal Retreat Experience

I love the moments that happen between the scheduled activities: conversations over breakfast, the excitement after a surf session, sharing a meal or watching the sky change colour in the evening. These moments are not always the ones you can put on an itinerary, but they often become some of the best memories.

Our retreats combine structured sessions with time to connect, explore and recharge. We welcome English- and German-speaking participants, and the aim is to create a supportive environment where people can enjoy the experience without feeling they have to perform.

Yoga and Surfing: Why They Work So Well Together

Yoga and surfing might seem like two very different activities, but they have a lot in common.

Both require body awareness, balance, concentration and the ability to respond to changing conditions. Yoga can complement surfing by supporting mobility, strength, breath awareness and coordination.

And both activities teach you something about patience.

On the yoga mat, you learn to notice your breath and work with your body rather than forcing every movement. In the ocean, you learn to observe the waves, adapt to conditions and accept that not every session will go according to plan.

Some days you catch a wave that makes you feel invincible. Other days, you spend a considerable amount of time paddling around wondering what you are doing out there.

Both are part of the experience.

You do not need to be an experienced surfer to enjoy a yoga and surf retreat. Our programmes include surf lessons with instructors, with equipment and transport included according to the retreat package.

If you are new to yoga or surfing, check the details of your chosen retreat. Some programmes welcome beginners, while individual activities may have specific requirements.

What Does a Typical Day at a Yoga and Surf Retreat in Morocco Look Like?

Every retreat has its own schedule, but a week with Yoga x Reiki Lab combines daily yoga classes, surfing, shared meals and time to explore. A day might begin with a morning yoga class in the shala, followed by breakfast and a surf session or an excursion. Depending on the programme, there may be another yoga practice, a sound meditation or time to relax in the afternoon. According to whalt you feel like, you can for example visit the local Hammam or book a Reiki Session with me.

Evenings offer an opportunity to enjoy a meal together, watch the sunset or simply rest after a day outdoors. The exact timetable depends on the retreat and the conditions. Surfing, in particular, requires some flexibility because the ocean does not organise itself around our calendar.

That is part of the appeal. You have a framework for the week without needing to plan every minute yourself.

Food, Community and Time to Recharge

Food is an important part of travelling, and Moroccan cuisine offers plenty of inspiration. Fresh vegetables, aromatic spices, salads and traditional dishes bring colour and flavour to the table. Our retreat packages include vegetarian meals according to the individual programme.

Shared meals also create time to get to know the other participants. You might arrive as a solo traveller and leave with new friends, or simply enjoy having the space to do things on your own. There is no single right way to experience a retreat. Some people love every group activity; others appreciate a quiet hour with a book and a coffee.

Both are perfectly fine.

When Is the Best Time for a Yoga Retreat in Morocco?

The best time to visit Morocco depends on what you want from your trip.

Along the Atlantic coast near Tamraght and Taghazout, autumn, winter and spring are popular seasons for surf travel. Conditions vary throughout the year, and the weather can change from week to week.

Autumn often brings warm days and pleasant conditions for exploring the coast.

Winter is a popular time for surfers looking for Atlantic swells. It can also be a wonderful escape from colder European weather, although evenings can be cool and rain is possible.

Spring brings longer days and opportunities to enjoy yoga, surfing and outdoor activities in comfortable temperatures.

Summer is generally warmer, with different surf conditions and a livelier atmosphere in some coastal areas. For a yoga retreat, consider your priorities. Do you want to focus on surfing, enjoy warm weather or travel during a particular holiday period?

Whatever season you choose, bring layers for cooler mornings and evenings and check the forecast before you travel. You can find current retreat dates and availability on the Yoga x Reiki Lab website.

How to Choose the Right Yoga Retreat in Morocco

Not every yoga retreat offers the same experience. Before booking, think about what you actually want from your week. Are you looking for a strong daily yoga practice? Do you want to learn to surf? Are you curious about meditation and sound? Or are you simply ready to spend time by the ocean without worrying about your usual responsibilities?

Look at the yoga styles, the daily schedule, the accommodation, the meals and the activities included in the price. Check whether surf lessons and equipment are provided, whether airport transfers can be arranged and whether there are additional costs for private rooms or optional treatments.

It is also worth checking the group size and the experience of the teachers.

At Yoga x Reiki Lab, our retreats combine yoga with surfing, mindful practices and opportunities to explore Morocco. The focus varies from one retreat to another, so choose the programme that feels right for you.

And remember: you do not need to arrive with a list of things you want to achieve. A retreat can be just as valuable when you give yourself permission to see what happens.
